The Energy Hub is a cogeneration plant fuelled by natural gas with electricity and heat production to serve the district heating network of the city of Reggio Emilia. The Energy Hub has:
- A combined-cycle plant with an installed electrical capacity of about 63 MWe and about 50 MWt in cogeneration mode;
- A conventional-cycle plant with an installed electrical capacity of about 18.5 MWe and a cogeneration capacity of about 50 MWt.
The plant, in cogeneration mode, achieves an overall efficiency of 80%. Four integration and reserve boilers with a total capacity of approximately 70 MWt and four superheated water storage tanks with a total capacity of 1,600 m3 are also installed in the power plant.
EMAS registration
The New Energy Hub/Network 2 power plant has an environmental management system compliant with the EMAS Regulation, in order to implement continuous improvement in environmental performance and to publish an annual Environmental Declaration, validated through specific audits. EMAS registration, according to Regulation (EC) no. 1221/2009, is one of the most sought-after and selective achievements in the environmental management of a production site. The power plant, which already has a certified system for environmental management UNI EN ISO 14001:2004, obtained EMAS registration number IT-002136.
