Our energy

Iren has conventional heating systems for integration and reserve for district heating.

Energy upgrading

of heating systems

Outdated and obsolete systems result in limited efficiency with associated energy losses that entail unnecessary and avoidable costs. This is why Iren offers a system upgrading service, managed by the company Iren Smart Solutions. With careful energy analysis and targeted renovation of energy production facilities, the expected energy savings can be significant.

Polytechnic Plant

The Polytechnic integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, has three water-tube steam generators, each of about 85 MWt, equipped with flue gas heat recovery units of about 3.9 MWt. District heating heat production is realised with a saturated steam/overheated water heat exchanger with a thermal output of approximately 255 MWt.

BIT plant

The BIT integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, has three water-tube steam generators, each of about 85 MWt with superimposed saturated steam/superheated water heat exchangers in which the water to be sent into the district heating network is produced.

North Turin plant

The North Turin integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, has a total thermal output of about 340 MWt. The 3 steam generators have a single saturated steam/superheated water heat exchanger in which the water to be sent into the district heating network is produced.

Moncalieri plant

The Moncalieri integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, has a total thermal output of about 141 MWt. The 3 steam generators each have a saturated steam/overheated water heat exchanger in which the water to be sent into the district heating network is produced.

Rivoli and Grugliasco plants

The Rivoli and Grugliasco integration and reserve plants, fuelled by natural gas, have a total nominal thermal power of about 100 MWt.

TRM plant

The TRM heat exchange station uses waste heat from the Turin waste-to-energy plant, with a nominal installed thermal power of about 100 MWt.

Via Sardegna plant

The Via Sardegna integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, consists of four heat generators (thermal oil) with a nominal capacity of about 16 MWt each.

RETE 1 plant

The Rete 1 thermal power plant, with a total thermal output of approximately 26 MWt, consists of 5 heat generators (3 hot water and 2 thermal oil) that supply part of the district heating network in the S. Pellegrino district and part of the city’s main network. Two compression refrigeration units are installed inside the power plant for the production of cooling energy for the district cooling service.

Pappagnocca plant

The Pappagnocca integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, consists of three heat generators with a total heat output of about 40 MWt.

Energy Hub power plant

The Energy Hub integration and reserve plant consists of four heat generators with a total capacity of about 70 MWt.

Via Lazio plant

The Via Lazio integration and reserve plant consists of four heat generators with a nominal capacity of about 14 MW each.

BF13 plant

The BF13 thermal plant, consisting of three boilers with a total rated thermal output of approximately 3.9 MWt, serves the residential and commercial buildings adjacent to the university campus.

Santa Margherita plant

The Strada S. Margherita integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, consists of two superheated water heat generators, each of about 20 MWt.

Diete di Roncaglia plant

The Diete di Roncaglia integration and reserve plant, fuelled by natural gas, has a total thermal output of approximately 41 MWt and consists of four boilers with a total output of 13 MWt and two additional boilers with a total output of 28 MWt.

Tecnoborgo plant

The Tecnoborgo heat exchange station uses waste heat from the Piacenza waste-to-energy plant, with installed nominal thermal power of about 20 MWt.
