The party responsible for reading your electricity meter is your local distributor. Today, electricity distributors have, in most cases, electronic meters and transmit data independently to the electricity seller on a monthly basis.

For technical reasons, either because the meter is still an electromechanical model or because of transmission problems, remote reading is sometimes not possible and therefore the local distributor is required to take readings by on-site visits, making a reading attempt once every 4 months for most consumers (up to an available power not exceeding 16.5 kW).

Customers may request to pay their bill in instalments when:

 

  • the bill contains a recalculation for actual consumption that exceeds by 150% the average charge for bills on estimated consumption received after the previous bill that contained a recalculation. If, for example, the last five bills on estimated consumption have averaged €30 each, customers can apply for instalment when their balance bill is €75 or more; the threshold is 250% for non-domestic customers;
 
  • due to a meter malfunction, payment is demanded for consumption not recorded by the meter;
 
  • the bill in question exceeds €50.
