The conduct of our activities

Iren operates in the environmental analysis and metrology sector through Iren Laboratori, a company that, on the strength of the know-how acquired for internal control activities, offers Group companies and third-party customers its expertise in the following activities: sampling, analysis, instrument calibration, inspection and consultancy.

Promoting the growth of new skills for the development of new technologies

In recent years, various studies and research have been carried out in the environmental field in cooperation with the AMGA Foundation, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, universities and companies of the Iren S.p.A. Group.

Activities of this kind have enabled us to establish relations with the most important research centres operating in the environmental field, both in Italy and abroad, with the aim of keeping abreast of the most innovative technologies and managing any criticalities in a timely manner.

Instrument calibration

The IrenLab Metrology Centre carries out calibration activities in its laboratories on a wide range of measuring instruments, both portable and online. Calibrations are carried out on the basis of internal procedures that guarantee the traceability of measurements. The result is the issue of a Calibration Report certifying compliance with the criteria defined by the customer.

Environmental analyses

The environmental analyses take into account both activities carried out in the field and those performed at the IrenLab laboratories in Piacenza, Turin (also includes the AMIAT laboratory), Genoa, Reggio Emilia and La Spezia.

Inspection Bodies

The Iren Laboratori Inspection Body is accredited in accordance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 as a Type C Inspection Body for periodic verification, pursuant to Ministerial Decree 93/17, of volume conversion devices associated with gas meters.

The purpose of an inspection known as periodic verification is to ensure the correct functioning and maintenance over time of the metrological characteristics of a metering instrument. All metering instruments used for legal metering functions, i.e. whose metering function is justified for reasons of public interest, environmental protection, consumer protection, the imposition of taxes and duties, and fair trading are subject to periodic verification (articles 1-2 of Ministerial Decree 93/2017).
